Communicating with residents about what can and can’t be recycled is an ongoing challenge for haulers and municipal solid waste departments.

Enter a new tool that’s being deployed in some places: smartphone apps. Dallas has one. And recently a county in Wisconsin launched one as well.

Fox6Now.com has the details:

The County contracted with the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee’s App Brewery, to develop the app which provides detailed information on what and how to recycle or safely dispose of items, and where to take them, along with navigation to the selected location.

“This app makes it easy for our residents to recycle right. The more residents recycle right, the more economical and environmentally sustainable the recycling program is,” noted Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow.
