ULtrePet Expands PET Recycling Unit

UltrePet LLC is expanding its polyethylene terephthalate (PET) recycling capacity at its Albany, N.Y., facility.

The multiphase project by the Albany-based UltrePet will increase the company’s total capacity to nearly 100 million pounds annually, the firm said in a news release.

It also upgrades UltrePet’s reclaiming operations by improving sortation and wash technology.

“UltrePet has steadily expanded our position in the high-end PET reclaiming marketplace, serving FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and non-FDA bottle, sheet, high-end fiber and engineered resin applications,” said Scott Mellen, UltrePet president. “By increasing and improving our technology we hope to further penetrate these markets and build on our leadership position.”

UltrePet is a partnership of wTe Corp., Bedford, Mass., and Tomra of North America, Stratford, Conn.
