The Kalamazoo City Commission on Monday directed Mayor Bobby Hopewell, city staff and a consultant to work with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and a private company to see if there is another possible solution for dealing with the Allied Paper landfill.
Commissioners had been ready to pass a resolution supporting the EPA's plan to clean up the former Allied Paper landfill.
But Vice Mayor Don Cooney proposed an amendment to Commissioner David Anderson's motion to approve the resolution, in which Cooney wanted to add that a North Carolina-based company should be given the opportunity to prove that its method works.
