Landfill's National Historic Landmark Status Withdrawn

Fresno, Calif. -- U.S. Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton withdrew the Fresno Municipal Sanitary Landfill from its national historic landmark status on Tuesday. After learning from National Park Service advisory board members that the landfill was declared a toxic Superfund site in 1989, she dropped the site from the list. The administration claims it did not know aboout the classification until Tuesday.
