The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced that for fiscal year 2005 it will provide $26.5 million to 38 states for energy efficiency programs. DOE allocated the largest distribution to California, which is slated to receive nearly $3 million. In the past, the State Energy Program grants have been used to purchase compressed natural gas street sweepers and to fund biodiesel programs.

For every dollar from DOE, state and local governments and the private sector match $3.45. In total, $44 million will be awarded to the 50 states, the District of Columbia and five U.S. territories for 2005.
