Now that the Christmas and New Year’s toasts are over and the boxes are tossed, Dallas sanitation workers will truck discarded champagne bottles and paper to drop off at Waste Management’s Greenstar Recycling facility in Garland, just as they have since at least 2007.
This will be the last year that’s so.
Within the next two months, a Spanish firm owned partially by billionaires Bill Gates, George Soros and Carlos Slim will break ground on a new recycling facility on the McCommas Bluff Landfill site in southern Dallas.
The move represents new territory for both the city and the firm, Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas, known as FCC, which has been upping its expansion efforts in the United States, Iñigo Saenz, chief executive of the company’s Environmental Services subsidiary, said via email.
