The National Solid Wastes Management Association (NSWMA) recently submitted comments to the federal government supporting a proposed rule that would require the builder of a railyard waste transfer station to prepare an environmental impact statement and share it with local, state and federal authorities to provide an opportunity for public comment.
NSWMA submitted its comments to the United States Transportation Board (STB). The association joined the Solid Waste Association of North America, the Construction Materials Recycling Association, among other organizations in supporting the rule.
The proposed rule is part of the implementation of the Clean Railroads Act of 2008, which established that transfer stations in railyards are subject to the same state and federal environmental requirements as transfer stations in other locations.
