Michigan Solid Waste Bills Stall Affecting State's Recycling

With more than $600 million of recyclables landing in Michigan's landfills each year, the state is looking update its solid waste law.

However, stalled bills are preventing that from happening. The goal of the pending legislation is to create economic drivers to increase markets.

Experts estimate that this could increase the state's recycling rate from 19 percent to 45 percent and create 138,000 jobs, according to news reports. The environmental ramifications are also noteworthy.
