The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is still working on putting out the landfill fire in Moody, Alabama but Commissioner Stan Batemon says the crew is running into unintended issues.

The dump trucks used to bring in materials to put out the fire are hard on the roads, according to Batemon. “Hauling the first out on the road that goes between the borrow pit for dirt and the landfill- it’s torn the road up,” said Batemon.

Work on the damaged roadway will not begin until the landfill fire is put out by the EPA but, in the meantime, gravel will be used to patch the holes on the roadway.

Batemon mentioned that the ongoing effort to extinguish the landfill fire will continue for the next two weeks and things are moving in the right direction.
