John Oliver Takes Aim at Food Waste

Article-John Oliver Takes Aim at Food Waste

In his trademark, NSFW style, Last Week Tonight host John Oliver takes a long look at America's food waste problem. It is estimated that the U.S. wastes $162 billion in food every year

Oliver's commentary largely focuses on the consumer and agricultural sides of the equation. He outlines how much food goes to waste on store shelves and is not consumed after its purchased. And he also looks at how much food waste ends up in landfills and how that leads to methane production.

He does not, however, touch on how many landfill operators are working to recapture that gas and turn into energy, nor look at the burgeoning trend of municipalities across the country experimenting with organics collection.

For more on how the waste and recycling industry is dealing with food waste, check out the coverage in our Organics category.

Check out the video below, but be warned that Oliver uses more than a little salty language in his diatribe.
