Abengoa SA, the Spanish renewable-energy developer, won a $200 million contract from Fulcrum BioEnergy Inc. to build a waste-to-fuel refinery in Nevada.

The plant, about 20 miles east of Reno, will use gasification technology to convert municipal solid waste into synthetic crude that’s used in jet fuel, Seville, Spain-based Abengoa said Tuesday in a statement.

The plant will be designed to produce more than 10 million gallons of biofuel annually and will be the first of its kind in the U.S., according to the statement.
