UK District Council Rolls Out Educational Recycling Campaign

Last month, the European Union and the United Kingdom (UK) were at odds over recycling targets. This month, the UK’s Chichester District County has launched a campaign to educate and motivate residents to recycle.

If the country’s councils don’t meet the EU’s goal of recycling at least 50 percent of all waste by 2020, they could face expensive fines, which would affect the council’s finances and tax.

Currently, Chichester recycles approximately 40 percent of its waste, which is just 10 percent shy of the EU’s goal.

The Chichester Observer has the details:

Half of waste must be recycled by 2020.

That is the message from Chichester District Council as it embarks on a campaign to educate and encourage residents to recycle more.

Councils across the country may face heavy fines if they do not meet the 50 per cent recycling targets set by the European Union.
