Stroller Coaster (with video)

These days garbage truck drivers are trained to spot and respond to fires, traffic accidents -- even crimes in progress. But it's hard to believe Jeff Blackburn, a driver with Seattle-based CleanScapes, was prepared for the sight of a baby stroller streaking down the road in front of his truck toward a busy intersection. What Blackburn did next has many calling him a hero.

The stroller entered the road after the mother tried to park it to converse with a nearby group of women, only to have it roll away. After narrowly avoiding the child on wheels (a moment chillingly captured on the truck's dashboard camera), Blackburn honked his horn to alert other traffic, stopping a FedEx truck that had been on a collision course. He then parked his truck to try and block other oncoming vehicles before jumping out and chasing down the stroller, meeting up with another good samaritan just as the stroller jumped a curb. Blackburn told local TV station KOMO News that the baby boy inside was smiling up at him, apparently having a good time. The shaken but grateful mother can be seen on video arriving moments later and carting her son away, no doubt en route to Babies R Us to buy a stroller leash.
