The sight of trash bags and blue recycling bins at the ends of driveways will be a thing of the past in town after automated trash and recycling pickup was approved Monday night.
Starting July 1, all residents will place blue and green barrels at the end of their driveways for trash and recycling, respectively, so that a truck with an automated arm can start the heavy lifting.
Selectmen voted unanimously on Monday to authorize Town Manager Jeffrey Hull to begin the process of makiing the transition to automated trash and recycling pickup.
Public Works Director Michael Woods said the program is expected to save the town about $100,000 annually in trash and recycling disposal costs.
