Last week, The Alamo Recycling Center in Texas caught fire due to some airbags being left outside the building.

Airbags, which were left outside the Alamo Recycling Center, exploded due to the intense heat. Authorities warned residents about traveling in the area, as a result.

The fire department responded to the fire at the Recycling Center around 4 p.m. Friday afternoon.

Alamo Fire Chief Roy Contreras said that the Recycling Center had received airbags and placed them outside the building on the southwest corner. But the airbags were not deflated, causing them to explode under the extreme Texas heat.

For reference, temperatures in the area Friday reached 101 degrees Fahrenheit, and the heat index was 107 degrees.

“The first initial one (airbag that exploded) — that was the strongest one. It did cause some houses to kind of shake,” Contreras said Saturday. Contreras added that the tremble from the explosion was felt at the nearby fire station.

Contreras continued to say that the fire had been extinguished, but there was still some smoldering in the area.
