When most people think “sustainability,” they are often surprised to learn about how the waste and recycling industry is increasingly playing a bigger role as well. (and always has been, right?)

Over the past months, Waste360 has gone all-in on our coverage of the unique things that waste and recycling companies (as well as other organizations) are doing — in pursuit of smarter packaging, reducing ocean plastics, lessening emissions, tackling food waste and climate change, and more.

We do this under the banner of “Sustainability Talks,” which includes year-round content—articles, videos, and more—on Waste360.com and a this dedicated newsletter. Recent stories have included a look at Turning Up the Heat to Keep Temperature Down and Technology & Climate Change by Susan Robinson of Waste Management; It’s Time to Take Action on Environmental Justice by Derek Veenhof of Covanta; Why the Recycling System is Not Broken and A Look Ahead to a More Sustainable 2021 by Jeff Wooster of Dow and Schick Aims to Keep Razors Out of Landfills.

We will also be bringing all of this content to life at Sustainability Talks (LIVE) at WasteExpo 2021. This one-day event is all about the waste and recycling industry’s role in building a sustainable future.

Topics will include:

  • tackling the plastics crisis

  • textile waste

  • sustainable packaging

  • recycling and reuse

  • why sustainability is good for business

  • food-waste solutions

  • and more

Featured speakers will include: Marisa Adler, Senior Consultant, RRS; Emily Broad Leib, Clinical Professor & Director Food Law & Policy Clinic, Harvard Law School; Cory Connors, Sustainable Packaging, Landsberg Orora; Dave Ford, Co-Founder, Ocean Plastics Leadership Network; Jonathan North, VP, Sustainable & Core Solutions, Rehrig Pacific; Susan Robinson Senior Director of Sustainability & Policy, Waste Management; Ian Rosenberger, Founder & CEO, First Mile & Day Owl; Ty Rhoad, Regional Director Americas, TOMRA Recycling, Bryan Staley, CEO, Environmental Research & Education Foundation; Paul Stauder, President, Covanta Environmental Solutions, and more of today’s luminaries in this space.

The Sustainability Talks platform is all about real talk and bold action. As the waste and recycling industry takes on the tsunami of plastics, packaging, textiles, food waste and other environmental challenges – we believe it is time to discuss our role in building a sustainable future.

We are excited to tell the stories and share the solutions the industry needs to innovate and make the world a better place.

Who’s ready to join us to innovate toward a sustainable future? Join us at the upcoming Sustainability Talks, co-located with WasteExpo 2021, June 30 in Las Vegas.
