The Composting Council isn’t letting COVID-19 and social distancing ruin the 25th anniversary of International Compost Awareness Week (May 3-9, 2020). Instead, they are thinking of different ways to spread awareness of the importance of composting through social media, emails, letters, online webinars and more.

This year’s theme focuses on why Soil Loves Compost and what it can mean for gardens, the community as a whole, and the overall health of the environment. According to its press release, USCC said the goal of ICAW is to work together to increase public awareness on the benefits of compost and organics recycling.

Here are just a few benefits of compost and organics recycling:

  • Increased soil health

  • Reduced pesticide and chemical use

  • Reduction in soil-borne and other plant diseases

  • Reduced methane emissions from landfills

  • Compost offers a significant answer to climate change mitigation
