LA's Puente Hill Landfill to Become First Regional Park in 30 Years

A landfill that once comprised of a third of Los Angeles Country's waste will become the first regional park in 30 years.

Puente Hills Landfill, a 602-acre site, opened in 1957 and closed in 2013. Garbage is estimated to have reached 500 feet high and weighed 130 million tons. 

The new park will be built on 142 acres of the former 1,356-acre landfill.
