Stericycle Linked to Burning of Radioactive Waste

A former employee of Stericycle claims the waste incineration company routinely burned radioactive waste and was haphazard in its oversight at the Davis County facility.

At a Wednesday afternoon press conference in front of the governor’s office, opponents of Stericycle used claims by the former employee — displayed in a video in which the worker’s voice was masked and his face was covered — to renew claims the medical waste company has no future in Utah.

The ex-employee alleged items were not routinely checked or scanned before being placed on the line for incineration and radioactive wastes were routinely burned, in violation of state, federal and international law. He also said much of the equipment used by the facility was faulty or poorly maintained.

“I’m terrified by what I saw,” Natasha Hincks of the neighborhood group Communities for Clean Air said of the video.
