Conducted by the Waste Age editors
It’s November, and football is in full swing. That suits Environmental Solutions Group President Patrick Carroll just fine. As someone who counts college football as his favorite TV show, loves the Packers, considers coaching an alternate career option, and whose ideal dinner guests include football legend Vince Lombardi and Ronald Reagan (who was not a football legend but played one on film), the man appreciates his pigskin. But Carroll’s also got a sensitive side. Peruse our lighthearted Q&A to learn about his empathetic choice of superpower and his endearing marital talent.
Waste Age: What is your pet peeve?
Carroll: When someone does not keep their commitments.
Waste Age: What is your idea of the perfect day?
Carroll: Winning $20 off my buddy on the golf course in the morning; grilling steaks and sharing a nice bottle of wine with family and friends that evening.
Waste Age: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Carroll: Appreciate others’ skills and abilities.
Waste Age: What was the last book you read?
Carroll: “Unbroken” by Laura Hillenbrand.
Waste Age: What is your favorite movie?
Carroll: “Braveheart” or “Beerfest,” depending on my mood.
Waste Age: What is your favorite TV show?
Carroll: College football.
Waste Age: Beatles or Rolling Stones?
Carroll: AC / DC
Waste Age: What is the strangest piece of trash you’ve ever come across?
Carroll: Someone threw out a plastic skeleton from a high school science class. Not that strange, but when you see a bony arm sticking out of a pile or trash it makes you do a double take.
Waste Age: Do you prefer the beach or mountains?
Carroll: Being from Montana, I have to pick mountains.
Waste Age: What is the one thing you couldn’t live without?
Waste Age: If you could invite three people — living or dead — to a dinner party, who would they be?
Carroll: Abraham Lincoln, Vince Lombardi and Ronald Reagan.
Waste Age: If you weren’t serving in your current role, what would you like to be?
Carroll: A football coach.
Waste Age: What is your favorite sports team?
Carroll: The Green Bay Packers.
Waste Age: If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
Carroll: The ability to heal.
Waste Age: What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve done?
Carroll: My plane didn’t show up so I drove 12 hours across Ecuador from Cuenca to Quito on dirt roads and sheer cliffs with no side rails. It’s beautiful scenery, but tough to enjoy it when you’re white knuckling it on mountainside winding roads.
Waste Age: What’s the one talent you have that not many people know about?
Carroll: The ability to keep my wonderful wife Jennie around when all others say she can do better.
