In a move that could set the stage for a construction bond vote next November, the Central Vermont Solid Waste Management District will try to acquire a derelict farm on Route 14 as the possible site of a new facility to house its operations.
According to General Manager Leesa Stewart, the district’s executive board — a subset of the 18-town municipal cooperative’s full board — has authorized her to make an offer on the 41.5-acre farm owned by Jerry Rappaport, a onetime critic of the district.
The specifics of that offer were discussed during a brief executive session Wednesday, and Stewart said Friday she couldn’t talk publicly about them. The money to buy the land would come from cash reserves.
