After public scrutiny, ABC Recycling has canceled its plans for a new metal shredder near the waterfront outside Bellingham, Wash, city limits.

After public scrutiny, ABC Recycling has canceled its plans for a new metal shredder near the waterfront outside Bellingham, Wash, city limits.

“ABC Recycling would like to hereby withdraw its applications for permits for the development of its property located at 741 Marine Drive, Bellingham, Wash.,” said Andrew Anthony, vice president of U.S. operations for ABC in a letter.

ABC canceled a planned major project permit, site plan review, and associated preparation of an environmental impact statement. ABC Recycling first submitted its application materials on Oct. 23, 2023, for the facility.

Bellingham City Council and Whatcom County Council were hard on ABC’s application after a public outcry over the noise and pollution risks the new facility posed.
