Vitamix’s FoodCycler FC-50, a kitchen appliance, turns food scraps into compost, which provides nutrients to the soil and helps feed plants, flowers, fruits and vegetables.

The machine is easy to use and avoids the pests associated with traditional outdoor compost bins. It’s a great option for people who want to repurpose food otherwise bound for the landfill.

The FoodCycler processes fruit and vegetable scraps as well as chicken and fish bones, meat scraps, cereal, cheese, eggs and eggshells, coffee grounds, coffee filters, tea bags, legumes, beans, seeds and pet food.

The machine comes with a second lid to reduce any odors. Most cycles take between four and eight hours, but the cycles vary based on the contents and the quantity.
