Aspen, Colo. to Ban Food Waste from Landfills

The popular ski destination of Aspen, Colo. is seeking to shift organic waste out of landfills. City officials decided on a timeline that would eventually get the program moving.

The city plans to spend $700,000 to enact the new law once it is in place. Aspen's goal is to reduce organic waste going to landfills by 25% by 2025 with the end goal of zero by 2050.

It aims to divert 70% of all landfill materials by 2050.
