Waterford, N.J. -- Engineers hired to work on a $2 million New Jersey road project were surprised to find a landfill on their site. They estimate the discovery may cost an additional half million dollars to dispose of the 3,111 cubic yards of trash. That estimate may change, however, when State Department of Environmental Protection officials finish their investigation on whether hazardous wastes are present. Workers have encountered oil drums, petroleum odors, black and oily soil, automotive parts and toilets. A vendor who sells sheds and gazebos near the site told the
Waterford Courier-Post
that trucks used the site for garbage disposal when the Ecology Landfill closed 15 years ago.
