Houston residents have been without recycling pick-ups for weeks due to a “perfect storm” of delays and complications.

Houston residents have been without recycling pick-ups for weeks due to a “perfect storm” of delays and complications.

Cindy Case, a Houston resident, first complained to her local news station about the recycling pick-up delays, stating that it has been canceled at least three times in a row and has not seen a pick-up since December 12.

Mark Wilfalk, Solid Waste Director, says that the delays throughout the city have impacted many customers. Wilfalk says the combination of the holidays and a hard freeze are responsible for the delays.

"That shortened work week, with an already stressed system, with still building up our staffing and getting our equipment right-sized, we knew we wouldn't be able to service everyone," Wilfalk said.

Wilfalk has assured residents that recycling services will catch up, it just takes time.
