Company officials from Iveco and BASF have announced plans to recycle batteries from electric vehicles.

The partnership between Iveco and BASF was announced in late January. BASF recently opened a new recycling facility for battery chemicals and materials in Germany. BASF will oversee the collection and processing of the lithium-ion batteries used in Iveco’s electric vehicles across multiple European nations.

Through BASF’s process, the batteries will be converted into a material, and from there, cobalt, lithium, nickel, and other materials will be extracted. Those extracted materials will be distributed back to battery manufacturers.
