One of the Best Reasons a manufacturer, distributor or service company should consider joining the Waste Equipment Technology Association (WASTEC) and the National Solid Wastes Management Association (NSWMA) is to take advantage of discounts that can only be obtained on a group basis. In June, WASTEC and NSWMA finalized an agreement with UPS Freight to offer a 70 percent discount to members for freight shipments to anywhere in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The UPS Freight Associations Program offers an integrated network of more than 200 facilities that provide regional, interregional, and long-haul options through more than 21,000 one- and two-day lanes nationwide and three- and four-day transcontinental sleeper team service. Services are provided with one pick-up and are backed by a day-definite, on-time guarantee.

UPS Freight minimizes customs delays when shipping to and from Canada through customs-bonded facilities and offers complete on-line tracking. When speed of shipments is critical, members can mark their packages as urgent and still guarantee an on-time shipment.

In addition, from shipping to setup, the WASTEC-NSWMA/UPS Freight agreement offers trade show services at a significant discount. This includes:

  • Inbound and outbound services for exhibit materials and high tech equipment;

  • Advance warehousing to streamline the shipping process;

  • A full range of domestic and international freight and package services, including air and ground service;

  • Tracking to give members real-time information on their materials; and

  • A single point-of-contact for the trade show team.

UPS Freight will assist with any required shipping information to ensure a smooth pick-up and delivery to the show. They also will help with pick-up scheduling and tracking of exhibit materials. UPS Trade Show Specialists can provide competitive spot price quotes upon request.

“In addition to the advantages of discounted shipments, our members will benefit from the quarterly royalty that will be paid to the Associations,” said Gary Satterfield, Executive Vice President, WASTEC. “We are always looking at new ways to expand the benefits of trade association membership and increase our ability to fund other important services, such as WASTEC's Market Statistics Program and our many subcommittees to develop American National Standards Institute (ANSI) safety recommendations.”

The WASTEC ANSI standards partner nicely with NSWMA's Safety Committee activities. Together, members benefit by focusing on ways to avoid injuries through specific requirements for equipment, facilities, driver safety, and route manager training and by working to change public behavior when near garbage trucks.

NSWMA's state programs continue to ensure industry advocacy before policy-makers at the local level. By participating in chapter meetings and events, members benefit through sharing ideas and networking.

Taking advantage of the UPS Freight Association program is simple. Members can enroll through either www.wastec.org or www.nswma.org. Applications are sent directly to the UPS Freight Association. The UPS freight administrator will then contact the member with information on the effective date of pricing and send a welcome kit containing information concerning UPS Freight services and a copy of their statement of agreed pricing.

Members who would like more information or a hard copy of the enrollment form should contact Christine Hutcherson, NSWMA-WASTEC's director of membership services, at 800-424-2869 or [email protected].
