Dr. Luis Aguirre-Torres Resigns as City of Ithaca’s Director of Sustainability

Dr. Aguirre-Torres completed his last day as the City of Ithica's Director of Sustainability on October 21st, 2022. Working in the position for just over a year, his short term in the role put the city on the map for its game-changing approach to solving climate change at a local level. Aguirre-Torres outlined his reasons for leaving and pinpointed a level of pushback from colleagues as one of them. He believed due to this mentality, progress towards his personal and climate-related citywide goals became nearly impossible.
