New Rules Mean You Can Recycle More Plastics in Central NY

New York has new recycling regulations as of March 1. Stores are now required to accept plastic film marked with the recycling triangle "2" and "4" in addition to grocery bags. Included are newspaper bags, dry cleaning bags, bread bags, produce bags and plastic wrapping from around paper products. Hard plastic seals (like the "zippers" ) must be cut off. Soil, mulch or compost bags are not acceptable unless the plastic has been cleaned and dried. We've been collecting this plastic for several weeks, and there is lots. Washing plastic bags is no fun; avoid using them when possible. That is a goal of the new rules, of course.
