Industry Agrees on E-Waste Recycling Program

Rebekah A. Hall

Arlington, Va. -- Representatives of the Electronic Stakeholders Alliance (EIA) are supporting a resolution to develop national recycling efforts with state governments and environmental groups. As part of the resolution, manufacturers will work to develop a financing structure for electronic waste recycling that the National Electronics Product Stewardship Initiative (NEPSI) will then recommend to Congress. The EIA has noted that the difficulty will be getting the industry to agree on a monetary strategy that encompasses electronic manufacturers' views and needs.

However, EIA Director of Environmental Affairs Heather Bowman says that "with this agreement, our members are working together and moving the industry forward by presenting a unified solution to help … [recycle] more electronic equipment."
