Agreement Reached To Clean Up Central Ohio Tire Pile

Article-Agreement Reached To Clean Up Central Ohio Tire Pile

Upper Sandusky, Ohio -- Tireless LLC, a subsidiary of Pittsburgh-based Petro Rem Inc., has signed a sub-contract agreement to begin remediating discarded tires at the Kirby tire pile in Central Ohio.

Central Ohio Contractors Inc. (COC) has a contract with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency to remove 30,000 tons, or 3 million passenger tires, within a 12-month period. Under terms of the sub-contract with COC, Tireless will use its portable tire shredder to reduce the pile. COC's goal is to shred 1 million to 1.5 million tires at the site.

The portable tire shredder cuts whole tires into 2-inch by 2-inch chips, which will be used at a nearby landfill for construction drainage.

The Kirby pile currently is comprised of between 30 million and 50 million tires, which has caused several hazards throughout the past 20 years.
