I'd Rather Be

Jennifer Grzeskowiak

Some days, going to work just doesn't seem appealing. But for most people getting dressed and heading to a job seems far preferable to being buried in a landfill. At first, there was relief when a Washington state woman who had been missing for days was spotted underneath some trash at a transfer station in Ukiah, Calif. She claimed to have been carjacked, forced to drive to California and then ordered into a bin at a grocery store, before being transported to her final destination.

Amid suspicion from authorities, the woman eventually admitted to fleeing the state while on her way to work. Because she suffers from depression, the police did not press any charges.
