While the methane released from landfills might sound like a problem with zero solutions or uses, there are actually several ways to reclaim this waste. The methane can be taken in and processed into electricity allowing for a number of different uses. In the case of a landfill in Dakabin in Queensland, this energy is being saved and used to fuel electric vehicles.

The landfill doing this is one of 7, and has the capability of powering at least two 1 MW generators for 20 years.
