Few Object to Landfill Permit in Greene Township

Greene Township residents had little to say about the IESI Blue Ridge Landfill filling up more quickly.

A public hearing Wednesday in the Greene Township Municipal Building lasted four minutes. Two residents spoke.

IESI has applied to increase its daily intake of trash. The municipal waste landfill would fill up in five years instead of the current 7.5 years, according to IESI consultant Rick Bodner of Martin and Martin.

About 40 to 50 trucks would be added to the daily traffic, according to landfill district manager Samuel Donato Jr. About 150 tractor trailers and trash trucks a day currently visit the landfill.

Resident Donald Farner said he had wanted to mention the large crowd he had expected to attend the hearing.
