Citizens Against Ohio Landfill Raise Concerns

To some residents living in communities with nearby landfills, the waste generated from construction and demolition waste—known as C&D—is a concern.

Residents of Ohio are calling for Sunny Farms Landfill in Fosteria to close. They say the Ohio EPA, which does not have jurisdiction over out-of-state waste handling operations, also needs to have better oversight.

While most landfills produce gases that are recoverable such as methane, landfills that accept C&D create gases such as hydrogen sulfide, carbon disulfide, carbonyl sulfide and n-propyl-mercaptan.
