The Penton Waste and Sustainability Group now has two new leaders.

David Bodamer has been named executive director, content & user engagement for the group. He joins Mark Hickey, who as previously announced rejoined Penton as the group’s sales director.

Bodamer adds responsibility for content for Waste360 and related properties along with maintaining the same title for the Commercial Real Estate Group. He replaces Steven Averett, who moved to overseeing other publications within Penton.

"We are very pleased to have these two dynamic professionals join our team during this time of growth and opportunity in the waste and sustainability industry," said Warren Bimblick, Penton senior vice president, strategy and business development. "David is one of the most digitally savvy content leaders around, and Mark has a proven and successful career in B2B information sales. They both have excellent ideas for taking the business to the next level and will be wonderful additions to our strong team. They will play an important role in our expanded relationship with the National Waste and Recycling Association."

Bodamer has overseen Penton’s National Real Estate Investor since 2011 and has covered the commercial real estate sector since 1999 for publications including Retail Traffic, Commercial Property News and Shopping Centers Today. His writing on real estate has also appeared in The Wall Street Journal’s online real-estate news site, and he has won multiple awards from the National Association of Real Estate Editors. He also was a past finalist for a Jesse H. Neal Award.

In his new role, Bodamer will manage editorial efforts across all of the group’s properties and events, with a focus on digital innovation. He is based in New York.

Hickey brings 30 years of business-to-business media sales and management experience to Penton, including leadership of Penton’s Telephony. He has managed print, digital, marketing services and conferences in a variety of industries – telecommunications, data networking, natural and organic foods and pharmaceuticals – in roles from territory management to group publisher.

"Our mission (at Penton) is to deliver practical and creative opportunities to help our waste and recycling industry customers actively connect with their best customers and prospects through our different platforms,” Hickey said. “We only win if our customers win, and that’s how we approach our business every day."

In his role as Waste and Sustainability Group sales director, Hickey will oversee sales for all of the group’s products, including Waste360 magazine and digital, and WasteExpo. He will be based in Chicago.
