Two researchers at Tokyo University have developed a100 percent biological cement from food waste such as coffee grounds, Chinese cabbage, banana peels and seaweed, just to name a few.

The two men are working with Fabula Inc to create emergency shelters - ones that can be used in disaster zones, broken down and boiled for consumption if needed. Displaced individuals could also use the edible cement to make makeshift beds and other needed items.

Japan is the 11th largest producer of food waste in the world and plans to reduce the country's edible food waste from 5.7 million tons to 2.7 million by 2030.
