The NFL Draft is set to take place next week in Detroit, Mich. which will draw a huge crowd, and one non-profit is ready and waiting to preserve excess food for the community from the event.

Already well into its preparations, the kitchen at SDM2 Project Education is offering up new meals because of the influx of festivities ahead of the NFL’s big event.

"Everything that comes in is quality food," Jacqueline Moore, founder of SDM2 Project Education, said. "We're within a community that does not have quality grocery stores; the food is not what it should be."

Metro Food Rescue makes weekly deliveries to 74 groups, including SDM2 Project Education. The program anticipates it will prevent roughly 30,000 pounds of food from going to waste during the NFL Draft. The saved food from caterers, restaurants, and other vendors during the vent is expected to make 25,000 meals for the community.

"So, before the draft, we're picking up once a day in the afternoon, and once it gets closer to the draft, it's going to be morning pickups because no one wants to be driving in and out of there in the afternoon when the event is at full force," Chad Techner, founder and CEO of Metro Food Rescue said.
