More Democrats Join Objection to Bush’s Choice for EPA Leader

Washington, D.C. -- Sen. John Edwards, D-N.C., has joined Democratic Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York and Joe Lieberman of Connecticut in blocking President Bush’s nomination of Utah Gov. Mike Leavitt for administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Edwards told news sources the Bush administration should be more forthcoming and accountable for the anticipated results of the administration’s requests for altered air pollution regulation. The Democrats are arguing that Bush is compromising the protective provisions of the Clean Air Act.
