New Orleans Officials Propose Ordinance for Homes Built on Toxic Landfill

New Orleans official have introduced an ordinance that would shift $35 million of city funds to purchase a set of homes built on top of a toxic landfill.

The community was built in the 1970s as an option for affordable housing for Black residents. However, it has been deemed as one of the "most toxic site in the South."

The plan is to clean up the hazardous waste and convert the land into a solar farm. Officials have proposed similar ordinances in the past much to the opposition of current Mayor LaToya Cantrell.
