Residents in Flint, Mich. will be getting free trash and recycling cards this fall as the city hopes to increase the amount of materials it recycles.

Cascade, a Grand Rapids-based manufacturer, is partnering with the City of Flint to produce over 30,000 trash and recycling cards. The 96-gallon trash and 64-gallon recycling carts will be free to residential households.

The cost of purchasing and providing the trash and recycling carts will be helped largely by a $1 million grant from EGLE.

The city is looking to increase its recycling rate from 624 tons per year to 5,400 tons annually, an increase of 750 percent.
