British electronic retailer, Currys, has created a game mode in Fortnite to educate Gen-Z users on electronic waste.

Through the Creative Mode in Fortnite, which allows users to make their own maps and game modes, Currys has created a game mode that acts as a visual representation of broken and unused tech items around the country.

The game mode, called Trash Tycoon, pits players against each other to mine, collect, and recycle as much trash as possible.

“I’m optimistic when it comes to the future of e-waste. As the UK’s largest tech retailer, we know people, particularly Gen Z, want to recycle their old tech, but there is a lack of knowledge of how to do so responsibly,” said Moira Thomas, Currys director of sustainability.

“That’s why we’re confident Trash Tycoon will break down barriers, helping people better understand the issue of e-waste, in a language they can relate and take inspiration from, through the hugely popular game of Fortnite.”
