Cedar Falls Recycling Center to Expand


Tuesday morning saw workers with Larson Construction of Independence beginning construction on a 2,000-square-foot addition to the city’s recycling center in the 1500 block of State Street.

“They got the old baler out already and started shoring up the trusses so they can tear out the wall, expand it, and start pouring concrete by Friday,” said Public Works and Park Manager Brian Heath.

The $516,000 project, paid for out of landfill rebates and the refuse fund, will expand the center’s shipping and receiving area for materials, add a new membrane roof over an existing metal frame, shore up concrete masonry and create a new set of overhead sectional doors.

“We’ve been operating at capacity for approximately three or four years,” Heath said. “The building has got some structural issues we want to correct, and we want to increase some efficiencies in terms of our shipping dock and receiving dock.”
