Asphalt Shingles Pile Up in Central Indiana Landfills

A storm that caused $500 million in damage in Central Indiana this past year has caused companies to send tens of millions of pounds of construction waste to landfills.

The kicker is, roofing companies are claiming materials such as roofing shingles are being recycled. As the companies work to replace roofs from storm damages, massive loads of shingles have been piling up.

A local news investigation followed trucks filed with debris to the landfill. They flew a drone over the area and discovered piles of shingles that were thought to be going to recycling facilities.
