Ann Arbor Officials Raise Concerns About Private Operator of City's Recycling Plant

The sign outside Ann Arbor's municipal recycling plant, also known as the Materials Recovery Facility, reads: "A public/private partnership."

But city officials said this week they don't feel like ReCommunity, the North Carolina-based company the city pays to run the plant, is being a very good partner.

"We are in a situation there where we are questioning the ability of the operator to perform to the standards that we feel should be its operation," Craig Hupy, the city's public services administrator, told the City Council Monday night.
