While waste-to-energy facilities are more utilized overseas, the state of Florida is home to more waste-to-energy (WTE) facilities than any other state, and it has plans to ramp up production of those facilities. In summer 2022, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed SB 1764, a law that will establish a program to subsidize power purchase agreements and expansion expenses for municipally-owned combustion facilities, and multiple counties are now considering WTE expansion projects.
