Ohio Landfill Expansion Foes Gain a Significant Victory

The West Point Community Coalition celebrated a significant victory this week in its battle against the expansion of a local landfill.

Coalition leader Doug Sanford announced during an informational meeting at the West Point Church of the Nazarene that on Dec. 22, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency rejected the permit-to-install (PTI) application made by West Point Development LLC., which if granted would have allowed a 114-acre expansion on the Madison Township landfill.

"What this means is that they cannot put their landfill on this facility with the way they presented it to them, so we won," Sanford said. "We won one battle. We won a big battle."
