Louisiana Parish Ends Recycling Collection

Plaquemines Parish officials said all recycling collection will end beginning in March.

The parish announced the change Tuesday due to budget constraints and an increase in the recycling company's processing fee. The change will take effect March 1.

Republic, a subsidiary of BFI, handles recyclable trash pickup in the parish. In 2015, the processing fee was $20 per ton. Parish leaders were recently informed the processing fee will increase to $40 per ton, the Plaquemines Parish Solid Waste Department said.
