Hancock County Gets $55,000 Grant to Further Tire Recycling

The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality announced Friday it awarded the county a $55,000 waste-tire grant to continue collecting and recycling old tires.

The grant helps pay for the county's program of maintaining two tire-collection points and contracting with a processor who picks up the tires and recycles them at a center in Jackson.

It is the eighth grant awarded to Hancock County since 1994, when officials first applied for the program, MDEQ Communications Director Robbie Wilbur said.
